A good start to the day!

With these tips you’ll have a better start to the day:

Snooze function

The alarm rings - wake up - press the snooze button - go back to sleep. This pattern puts your body under more stress than if you just get up after it first rings. The result: you start the day tired and stressed.
Tip: Get up when your alarm rings and start your day. If you find it hard to get up straight away, put your alarm a little distance away from your bed, so that you have to get up to switch it off. There’s less likelihood of you lying down again and going back to sleep.

Coffee in the morning

Although we love our morning coffee, if you want a good start to the day, coffee shouldn’t be your first drink in the morning. Your body is dehydrated after sleep. We lose up to half a litre of water during sleep. So it’s best to drink water when you get up.
Tip: Add a squeeze of lemon to your water in the morning. This boosts your immune system and metabolism. This trick signals to your body that a new day has begun and it must be prepared. Ideally you should drink half a litre of water. After that you can enjoy your coffee.

Breakfast

During the night our body uses up lots of its reserves, so we have to refill it in the morning to be fit and ready for the day. A balanced and healthy breakfast should therefore be a firm part of your morning ritual.
Tip: If you are one of those people who doesn’t like eating when you get up, you should at least have some juice or smoothie, or a yoghurt.

Time pressure

We often think that every second of sleep is important to feel rested and fit for the day. Nevertheless, you must get up early enough so that you’re not in a rush to get to work. Nothing ruins your mood as much as being rushed and stressed in the morning.
Tip: Set your alarm a bit earlier than planned so that you can get up calmly and don’t have to rush your morning routine. So you can begin the day relaxed without stressful time pressures.

Plan for the day

First, get an overview of the day. What appointments do you have? What are your other commitments? Then plan your day.
Tip: There are various ways to plan the day, but the basic principle is: the most important thing first! Start your day with the most important tasks. Don’t get distracted and focus on your tasks. Plan for some time buffers, so that you don’t get stressed if there are delays. With good planning nothing will fluster you and you’ll have all the important tasks under control.
